About the Fine Art Books
I made numerous fine art books while working on my BA in the Visual Arts at Houghton University in NY State. I explored innovative ways to combine ceramics, book making, and printmaking. Many of these were exhibited along with prints and ceramic art as part of my senior art exhibit, which explored themes of place, home, travel and belonging.
The first book pictured below began with a ceramic house and ceramic book covers. I then printed the house onto paper with ink and cut it out and folded it so that the book can almost form the shape of a house again.
The second image is of a six foot folding screen I built. Before affixing the fabric sides, I printed on them with ceramics and tree bark, did some crayon rubbings of the windows on my family's historic farmhouse, and sewed tree silhouette on to them. I think of this folding screen a bit like a giant book!
